Welcome to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Cumbernauld
The Third Sunday of Easter, invites us to enter more deeply into the hope and renewal of the Resurrection. The Gospel reading from John 21:1–19 tells of the risen Jesus appearing to His disciples by the Sea of Tiberias. After a long night of catching nothing, they follow the voice of a man on the shore who tells them to cast their net on the right side of the boat. Their net overflows with fish, and they recognize: “It is the Lord!” Peter, filled with love and longing, jumps into the water to meet Jesus.
On the shore, Jesus welcomes them with a charcoal fire, bread, and fish—echoes of both the Last Supper and the miraculous feedings. After the meal, Jesus turns to Peter. In a tender exchange, He asks him three times, “Do you love Me?”—healing the wounds of Peter’s earlier denial. With each affirmation, Jesus entrusts him with a mission: “Feed my sheep.”
This encounter reveals the depth of Jesus’ mercy—He meets our failures with forgiveness and turns our weakness into a calling. The Third Sunday of Easter reminds us that the risen Christ comes not only in glory but in humility, walking beside us in our daily lives. His invitation to Peter is also given to us: to follow Him, to love Him, and to serve His people with hearts made new.

We, the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Cumbernauld, following the example of our Patron and Protector, believe that each member is called to ownership, discipleship, and evangelisation to our parish and local community.
The parish is a community of God’s people centered on the word of God and the Eucharist:
where all seek to be loving and caring, welcoming, forgiving, serving and healing;
where the poor can go for help, the lonely for company and the sorrowing for comfort;
where, with obedience to our own faith and respect for other faiths, we seek unity with all;
where, in a spirit of mission, we aim to promote God’s glory throughout the world;
where there is a passion for justice and peace;
where, as stewards of creation, we care and protect the environment locally and globally; and,
where Christ is the way and the truth and the life.
We do all of this as members of the Catholic community within the
Archdiocese of Glasgow and the universal Church.
