Welcome to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Cumbernauld

The 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) calls us to live with faith, vigilance, and trust in God’s promises.

In the first reading from Wisdom 18:6–9, the Israelites await deliverance with confidence, trusting in God’s covenant. This night of Passover becomes a symbol of salvation and hope, reminding us that God’s promises are sure—even when the outcome is unseen.

The second reading from Hebrews 11:1–2, 8–19 highlights Abraham’s faith, who obeyed God without knowing where he was going. He lived as a pilgrim, trusting in a heavenly homeland. His journey teaches us that faith means walking forward even when the path is unclear.

In the Gospel reading from Luke 12:32–48, Jesus urges His disciples to be ready and watchful, like servants awaiting their master’s return. He says, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.”

This Sunday reminds us that faith is active—not just believing, but living with purpose, generosity, and readiness. We are stewards of God’s gifts, called to use them wisely and await His coming with hope.

We, the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Cumbernauld, following the example of our Patron and Protector, believe that each member is called to ownership, discipleship, and evangelisation to our parish and local community.

The parish is a community of God’s people centered on the word of God and the Eucharist:

  • where all seek to be loving and caring, welcoming, forgiving, serving and healing;

  • where the poor can go for help, the lonely for company and the sorrowing for comfort;

  • where, with obedience to our own faith and respect for other faiths, we seek unity with all;

  • where, in a spirit of mission, we aim to promote God’s glory throughout the world;

  • where there is a passion for justice and peace;

  • where, as stewards of creation, we care and protect the environment locally and globally; and,

  • where Christ is the way and the truth and the life.

We do all of this as members of the Catholic community within the
Archdiocese of Glasgow and the universal Church.
